Frequently Asked Questions

How long will a flag last?

This depends on the flag fabric, the location and the flying frequency. Our own Polyknit flags are flown 5 days a week, brought in each night and in very strong winds, and look good for about 18 months - they may start to look faded after that, but still relatively good condition. However a very windy area would see this time possibly halved - and we would recommend Polybunting fabric in those conditions. We also recommend bringing your flag in during strong winds and at night if possible. A flag flying non-stop will only last about 6 months - maybe less - depending on the location and conditions once again.

Are your flags made in New Zealand?

Yes our flags are New Zealand made using the very best quality fabric, dyes and threads. Our flags will outlast and look better than cheaper overseas made flags on the market.

What size flag for my pole?

2 yard (1.8m x 0.9) is the most common size and suits flag poles from 3m to 8m we have most countries and stock flags available in this size. 3 yard (2.7m x 1.35m) is for tall flag poles over 8m and 2 storey plus buildings. 1.5 yard (1.4m x 0.7m) is an alternative to 2 yard and looks as good but we do not hold all country flags and stock flags in this size. 1 yard (900x450mm) for waving or small flag poles.

Can I wash the flag(s)?

Yes it is a good idea to regularly wash the flags, as they can accumulate dirt especially around high traffic and coastal areas.
Warm Machine wash - heavily soiled flags can be soaked in Nappi San first.
Line dry - tumble drying not recommended.
Do not Dry-clean.
Any ripped or frayed hems should be repaired immediately.
We have a repair service.

How much will a custom made flag cost?

This depends on the size of the flag, quantity of flags required and - depending on the printing method - the number of colours on the flag. If you can give us all these details we can give you a quotation and advise the best flag for your purposes and budget.

What is the difference between Screen-printing and other types of printing?

Screen-printing gives the most vibrant and long lasting colour and has excellent dye penetration of the fabric so the reverse side is as vibrant as the front.
Other printing methods we use including Dye Sublimation offer good results at a cheaper price for small quantities and many colours/images - however the dye penetration is 80% so the reverse side is not as vibrant - and the flags are not as long lasting in outdoor conditions.

Will both sides of the flag be the same?

As the dye penetrates the fabric - ie. we print on one side and the dye goes through to the other side - the image will be in reverse - so words will be read backwards on the back. If this is a concern we advise having the word go down the flag - which will make it easier to read on both sides, or if we make 2 flags - one can be flown the opposite way to the other so that customers coming from one direction can read one flag and customers coming from the other direction will be able to read the other flag correctly.

Are they cheaper if I buy more?

Yes the more you can order at once the cheaper they become like other printed goods. Many clients order double the quantity they will fly so they have another set for when the first wears out - this provides a longer period of highly effective advertising at a cheaper price.

But I only want one?

In this case we often use the Dye Sublimtation Printing Method as described earlier. Other aternatives to printing are sewing the design on (appliqué) - the price will depend on the complexity of the design and the hours to make it. A PVC Banner is often an economical alternative but doesn’t have 'flying power'.

How long will it take to make a flag?

Usually 2 to 3 weeks but if you need it urgently we can sometimes make them in a week - depending on what you require.

Do you make poles?

Yes we make and stock a variety of flag poles and mounting systems.

Do you install?

Sometimes in Dunedin we can install, or we will refer you to a builder or suchlike if we are unable to.

Can you ship overseas?

Yes we can send flags overseas. We don’t usually send Poles overseas as they are quite expensive to ship.

Our prices are expressed in New Zealand dollars and are GST inclusive. Website prices are the same as our in store prices unless specifically stated.
